Update June 2020

It's been a very weird couple of months with the Coronovirus global pandemic and being in a state of lockdown.  You would think I would have read so much but I am afraid I haven't read as much as I would have liked (Even though I am now on furlough leave, I did work right up until May 15th).  However, I have managed to 6 books in April and May

In April I read the following:-

Bear and Fred by Iris Argaman - 3 stars
Julia and Julie by Julie Powell -3 stars
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling -5 stars

I'm May I read the following : -

The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullam - 5 stars
Becoming by Michelle Obama (I read this on Audible) - 5 stars
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Burrows ( this was my Laurenandthebooks Patreon Book Club choice for May ) - 4 stars

I am also currently reading The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman and Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Everisto.

For June I am participating in Laurenandthebooks Pride and Prejunedice month.  I am going to read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and also other books related to it.  This months Laurenandthebooks Patreon book club choice is Longbourne by Jo Baker and I am also planning to listen to The Other Bennett Sister by Janice Hadlow on Audible.

Whilst on my furlough leave, I have been busy converting a very messy and neglected "craft/dumping ground" room into a reading room. I have made huge progress and it is starting to look  like a relaxing space where I can go to read and relax.  I am hoping that my reading will become more prolific as I discovered so many book I forgot I had on my shelves and it is more organised.  I even created space to house some of my husbands many sports related books on my shelves.

I hope that June is a good reading month

Happy reading

love Lesley xx

Quick Catch Up

Hi All I've been absence from this blog for a while as unfortunately my beloved hubby has been diagnosed with cancer.  We have caught it early and the prognosis is very good and positive.  It has been a strange year all round and the last couple of months have been more stressful and worrying to say the least. Things are now on the up and thus I feel it is time I get back into updating this little blog of mine, and this little catch up is to say I am coming back.  I am planning more regular content, showcasing my crafty endeavours, what I'm reading and life in general I am also pondering a better and more productive blog schedule for 2021. Watch this space. With love and wishing you a good week Lesley xx

Eating for England by Nigel Slater

Any one who knows me knows I adore Nigel Slater.  He is pure comfort and joy.  I absolutely love his writing and I was surprised that I wasn't aware of this little gem of a book before.  (It was published in 2007). As stated from the book, Eating for England is Nigel Slater's personal portrait of the British and their food.  A celebration of the glories, humour, eccentricities and embarrassments that make up that extraordinary thing that is the British table. This a collection of mini essays celebrating such delights as Faggots and Gravy, Murray Mints, Oxo Cubes, Fruit and Nut, Frys Five Centres, Boiled Brussels Sprouts , Quality Street, Colmans Mustard and Sarsons Vinegar to name but a few. This book is nostalgic, funny, and is a delight to read.  As usual when I read anything by Nigel, I hear his voice in my head, as if he is personally reading it to me. I loved this and gave it 5 stars. Happy reading Love Lesley xx
